Giveaway Time!

Hello lovely readers. Hope you are all well :o)

Time for a giveaway here on Damselfly Gemma. Technically this giveaway is celebrating the fact that I got my 100th sale over in my Folksy shop late last year...I've just been a bit late organising it!

I have decided to give away three heart themed pieces of jewellery as valentines day is approaching. This giveaway will run in a similar way to others I have had. I will do a draw for each item separately so you need to leave me a comment saying which of the three pieces you would like to win.

Here are you choices:

1) Frosted glass heart beads and sterling silver earrings

2) Blue resin drops with iridescent hearts and sterling silver earrings

 3) Pink glitter and black lace resin heart pendant with sterling silver bail

To enter:
Leave me a comment saying which of the three draws you would like to be entered in. One choice only please! Oh and make sure I have some way of contacting you if you win!

Open worldwide but as I will be paying the postage I will be sending the cheapest way possible ;o)

Closing date: 23.59pm Sunday 29th January (UK time)

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED

Thanks to all that entered. I used a random number generator to select the winners (Elloria's Boutique, Charters and Say it Says). Congratulations :o)

New stud earrings

Recently I have been obsessed with making little sterling silver and resin studs. Last year I made a few pairs of forget me not studs and I have been using the same basic design with other fillings. It all started when a friend of my Mum asked me if I could make a pair of earrings for her little niece for Christmas.

I've made 8 different pairs of studs in the last couple of weeks. Here's what I made. Some can be found in my Folksy shop but some have already sold :o) I can make more though so do get in touch if you'd like me to make you a pair.

Giveaway win two!

A couple or so of posts ago you may remember I mentioned I'd been very lucky and won 2 giveaways. Well on Friday my prize arrived from Jacqueline (of JAusten Jewellery Design). Jacqueline offered the winner a choice of a custom made piece of jewellery; a piece from her folksy shop; or a mystery prize. I chose the mystery prize option! And look at what she sent me!!! Its soooo yummy! I arranged a Christmas swap with Jacqueline a while back (through the folksy forums) for a pair of earrings- I have given the earrings to Phil to give back to me for Christmas. This necklace will match the earrings perfectly.

Jacqueline sells wonderful gemstone and precious metal jewellery from her folksy shop. Here are some of my faves from there- although dont hang about if you see something you like- Jacqueline's stuff sells REALLY quickly as its such high quality and VERY resonable- seriously- Jacqueline is selling thes goodies way too cheaply so grab them quick before she sees sense and puts her prices up to what they are worth!

Now I'm not a big jewellery buyer as I like to make my own, so although I happily admired Jacqueline's jewellery my bank balance was relatively safe...and then she opened a destash shop! Oh dear...my will power is taking some beating. I am still just about managing to be craft neutral (only spending money on crafts if I have sold things) but Jacqueline is really making that difficult. I haven't yet bought from her fab destash shop but have my eye on pretty much everything! Another place where people snap up her goodies the instant they are listed!

Thanks you so much Jacqueline for the wonderful necklace. And for being such a great supporter of us all in the list a day challenges on folksy.

ps. Just over 24 hours left to enter my giveaway if you haven't already done so.

My very first bottle of resin is empty....

...would you like to see where it went? I initially decided to venture into the world of resin after doing some fossil hunting with my Dad down at Barton-on-Sea. We picked up loads of little fossilized shells and I thought, "They'd be great set in resin." I then promptly shelved that thought.

A monthish later, Kerry, of PennyDog, offered a beginners resin kit on her facebook page. It had everything I needed- a book, pendant moulds, resin plus a couple of extra bits that I didn't realise I needed (mixing cups, measuring cups, stirry sticks, findings and a bangle mould). This kit is now sold out but Kerry is doing this one instead if you want to have a go. I highly recommend it!

After reading Kerry's book I promptly got to work. I popped a small layer of just resin in all of the mould cavities. After it had hardened, I popped in fossilized shells and then topped up the resin. The bangle needed another layer of fossils and resin. I mixed up too much for the final layer in the bangle so chucked the rest in the now emptied pendant moulds with some glittery bits.

Next the hard part. Sanding and polishing. I have a rotary tool for my jewellery making so could do the rough sanding there. Then I used wet and dry paper up to 1500grit. This was fine for the glittery stuff but I felt the pendants needed a glass like look. I tried micromesh (fantastic stuff for silver btw) up to 120000grit which looked good but a lot of effort. In the end I painted a thin coat of resin over the fossil pendants/bangle and now they are lovely and shiny.

I decided to spend some of my birthday money on a couple of moulds that I bought direct from Resin Obsession in the US (Kerry stocks some of their stuff but not the mould I had my eye on). I used them to make more glittery bits and pieces. These still need sanding etc.

One of the bits of resin related jewellery that I've made that I am most proud of is these little stud earrings. I made them by punching a circle out of sterling silver sheet and hammering it into a cup using a doming block. I then soldered a small length of 0.8mm wire on the back for an ear post. After pickling and polishing I popped a pressed forget me not in the cup and added a couple of drops of resin. The first pair I listed in my folksy shop sold that very same day!! I have made two more pairs, one is a commission and one is for the shop (and just listed them here.)

So, minus one pair of forget me not stud earrings this is everything I made with that first 6oz bottle of resin. Some bits will appear on folksy when they're done, some are already there and others were made for certain people. I'm hooked on the stuff and ordered another bottle from Kerry which arrived on Sat just before we headed off for the weekend! Yay!

Recycled dangly earrings

A few years ago I went to a bead fair and picked up some lovely sky blue 'vintage' beads from a seller who specialises in reclaimed beads (I can't remember who though-wish I could.) I combined them with some broken bits of snake chain to make these earrings. Pretty easy to make too. Take pieces of snake chain and individually heat the ends with a blow torch until they ball up. Pickle and rinse. Pop on the beads and VERY carefully solder the other ends of the snake chain to a ring. Pickle and rinse again and polish then pop onto earwires.

For a while they've been sitting here next to me while I decide whether to keep them or sell them. Well, I've now decided. If you want them then you can find them on Folksy.

Haven't done any extra on the fold forming mentioned in the previous post but will do soon.

First commission finished

I got my first 'proper' commission last week. Well....kind of. MIL ordered 4 pairs of earrings for the cruise she's taking in a couple of months. But it is a proper commission because she's paying me more than the cost of the materials....right? It counts, yes?

Well if it counts or not I finished them today. Taadaa!
